How to store injectables correctly: a quick guide for pharmacies and hospitals

An injectable is only as good as the way it has been stored. Most products carry clear directions on the carton — following them protects both potency and patient safety.

Read the storage line on every pack

Most of our dry powder injections are labelled store below 25°C, protect from light and moisture. Some products, such as certain peptide and biological preparations, need refrigeration between 2°C and 8°C. Always check the carton.

A simple storage checklist

  • Keep stock away from direct sunlight and windows.
  • Do not store on the floor or against outer walls that heat up.
  • Use a min–max thermometer and record temperatures daily.
  • Keep refrigerated products in a dedicated pharmacy fridge, not a food fridge.
  • Follow first-expiry, first-out when issuing stock.
  • Never freeze injectables unless the label says so.

After reconstitution

Once a dry powder injection is reconstituted, its stability is limited. Use it immediately or within the time stated in the prescribing information, and discard any unused portion.
